Rep. Sheryl Delozier (R-Cumberland) addressed the Senate Judiciary Committee in June about the need for Marsy’s Law. Rep. Sheryl Delozier (R-Cumberland) joined the Criminal Justice Reform Caucus in highlighting June as Re-Entry Month in Pennsylvania. Reps. Sheryl Delozier (R-Cumberland) and Jordan Harris (D-Philadelphia), have introduced House Bill 1477, which would ensure the boards overseeing licensure for 30 occupations are using fair, consistent methods. Rep. Delozier joined others in wearing turquoise to mark Women’s Lung Health Week in May. The American Lung Association reports the rate of women being diagnosed with lung cancer has increased by 87% in the last four decades. Rep. Delozier honored the late Bernard “Bert” Bertolino on the House floor April 29, 2019. She was joined by his family. Rep. Delozier was named a “Hellbender Defender” for her work to name the Eastern Hellbender as Pennsylvania’s state amphibian. The Coalition for Public Safety recognized Reps. Sheryl Delozier and Jordan Harris during its "A Celebration of Second Chances" evening in May 2019. The award recognizes the bipartisan push in Pennsylvania for criminal justice reform. Reps. This fall, the General Assembly passed Act 130 of 2018 that creates a safe harbor for sexually exploited children. Rep. The Saint Theresa Boys’ Basketball Team was recognized at the Capitol by Rep. Sheryl Delozier on its 2018 Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) Pennsylvania State Boys’ Basketball Tournament title. The team defeated Sacred Heart from the Pittsburgh Diocese by a score of 53-44 on March 18. This is the first boys’ state title for the school. The boys hail from throughout the Harrisburg area so Delozier was joined at the rostrum by Reps. Sue Helm, Dawn Keefer, Patty Kim and Greg Rothman. Rep. Sheryl Delozier spoke at the National Crime Victims’ Rights Rally in the Capitol Rotunda. As a former hotline volunteer and escort for victims of rape and domestic violence, she has seen the pain they have had to endure. She is hopeful her legislation to give victims constitutional rights like their accusers is passed soon. Sheryl Delozier joined some other members of the General Assembly in an educational lecture at Seven Springs by the Pennsylvania Game Commission. A mother bear was tranquilized to check on her health and to re-banded her. During our visit, they learned more about bears and their habitat. One of the highlights was holding the bear cubs. Unlike other animals, a mother bear will not reject her offspring if they come into contact with humans. Members of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Wormleysburg visited the Capitol in March as the House voted on a resolution sponsored by Rep. Sheryl Delozier declaring March 25, 2018, as Greek Independence Day in Pennsylvania. At a House Appropriations Committee budget hearing, Rep. Sheryl Delozier asked representatives of community colleges and technical schools about apprenticeship programs. During the House Appropriations Committee budget hearings, Rep. Sheryl Delozier asked the Independent Fiscal Office about the governor’s proposed severance tax and how the impact fee could be affected by a pending court case related to stripper wells. Rep. Sheryl Delozier spoke at a Capitol press conference urging passage of her legislation to guarantee equal protections for crime victims. House Bill 1993 would require the Commonwealth to protect the rights of victims no less vigorously than the rights of the accused. Rep. Sheryl Delozier helped Valley Grange No. 1360 and the Pennsylvania Dairymen’s Association sell milkshakes at the 102nd Pennsylvania Farm Show. RETTEW recently was named a winner of the Governor’s Award for Safety Excellence at the 2017 Pennsylvania Governor’s Occupational Safety and Health Conference. In December, a ceremony was held at its Safety Training Center in Upper Allen Township to mark the occasion. Rep. Sheryl Delozier presented a House citation congratulating the company for its high standards in workplace safety. In December, Rep. Sheryl Delozier spoke at Zonta’s 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence Campaign Rally at the Capitol. She talked about human trafficking and urged increased awareness about this crime. With numerous interstates intersecting in central Pennsylvania, it’s important to contact law enforcement if you see something that doesn’t seem right. Also, suspected cases of human trafficking can be reported to the National Human Trafficking Resource Center Hotline at 1-888-373-7888. Rep. Sheryl Delozier participated in a groundbreaking ceremony for a new Cumberland County Veterans Affairs Community Clinic in Upper Allen Township. It replaces the existing Camp Hill clinic and will be located at 5070 Ritter Road in the Rossmoyne Business Center. The location is expected to open in 2018. Three Philadelphia Eagles players, Malcom Jenkins, Torrey Smith and Chris Long, visited the Capitol to discuss criminal justice reforms and advocate for passage of Rep. Sheryl Delozier’s “Clean Slate” legislation. House Bill 1419 would allow individuals who commit a minor crime and have paid the consequences to be reformed and shed a label that often inhibits their successful reentry into society. Sheryl Delozier joined the Pennsylvania Coalition Against Domestic Violence (PCADV) in the Capitol Rotunda for its Domestic Violence Awareness Month ceremony. Last year, 102 Pennsylvanians died as a result of domestic violence. It is imperative that we continue to raise consciousness and change public perception. No one deserves to be a victim of domestic violence. Rep. Sheryl Delozier spoke on the House floor regarding her resolution recognizing October as “Domestic Violence Awareness Month in Pennsylvania.” The House Tourism and Recreational Development Committee held an informational meeting in Bloomsburg to learn about the effect Pennsylvania’s 109 fairs have on the state’s economy. During the visit, members of the committee, including Rep. Sheryl Delozier, met with the Bloomsburg Fair Directors. During the months of September and October, Rep. Sheryl Delozier hosted, along with MidPenn Legal Services and the Cumberland County Bar Association, a series of free “Older and Wiser” informational seminars featuring topics geared toward older adults, their families and caregivers. The seminars were presented as a public service by MidPenn Legal Services. In September, Rep. Sheryl Delozier hosted her annual town hall meetings at the Upper Allen Township and Lower Allen Township municipal buildings. A good crowd attended both events, and a variety of issues of importance were discussed. Messiah Village hosted a free mobile telephone and technology seminar presented by AT&T to help seniors become more proficient with technology and learn about online safety. Rep. Sheryl Delozier provided information to the attendees about state resources available to report scams and identity theft. The West Shore Bureau of Fire held a ground breaking for its new station, which is adjacent to the borough building in Lemoyne. This new 10,300-square-foot building will allow the department to effectively and efficiently handle fire, emergency, rescue and other life-threatening situations once completed. It will replace the existing station in Lemoyne. Rep. Sheryl Delozier joined in the ceremony. The Strike Out Social Stigma event was held at the Capitol in June to awareness about bullying and discrimination against those with intellectual disabilities. Rep. Sheryl Delozier participated by throwing a bowling ball down the makeshift alley. Rep. Sheryl Delozier hosted her annual car seat safety check at L.B. Smith Ford Lincoln in Lemoyne. Thank you to local law enforcement for assisting. The House voted to declare May 23, 2017, as Rosie the Riveter Day in Pennsylvania. This resolution is part of a nationwide effort to recognize this female icon and honor the millions of women who worked during World War II. The worldwide event raises money to provide essential services to children in impoverished communities. Anyone can support the campaign by purchasing red noses, pin badges, wristbands and pens exclusively at Walgreens through June 3. The Pennsylvania Assistive Technology Foundation (PATF) held a press conference to unveil its annual report. The foundation helps people help themselves by using a minimal amount of state funding to educate and leverage low-interest loans to allow individuals to purchase needed equipment. BethAnn Telford from Lower Allen Township was recognized by the House for running seven marathons on seven continents in seven days in January. Telford, who is a brain cancer survivor, was the only American woman in the race. She completed the journey to raise global awareness about brain disease and raise money for research. The Trinity High School Girls’ Soccer Team was honored at the Capitol on its 2016 PIAA Class AA Girls’ Soccer title. Sheryl Delozier sponsored a House resolution designating March 25, 2017, as Greek Independence Day in Pennsylvania. Sheryl Delozier joining her House Appropriations Committee colleagues in unveiling a new effort to help save taxpayer money by asking state employees for their ideas. The program, State Employees Achieving Savings (SEAS), asks current and state employees, who can remain anonymous, about their strategies to better streamline services and be more efficient. On Feb. 28, 2017, Rep. Sheryl Delozier introduced to the House Appropriations Committee 10 women officials from the Women’s Democracy Network (WDN). The network is an initiative of the International Republican Institute. Its goal is to increase women’s political participation, leadership and representation in elected office. The women are linked with their peers in other countries who share similar struggles, providing mentorship from experienced women who are leaders in their fields. This group of women was from the countries of Belarus, Bosnia-Hercegovina, Colombia, Ghanaian, Guatemala, Jordan, Poland, Tanzania, Tunisia and Ukraine. Sheryl Delozier joined her colleagues on the House floor on Feb. 6, 2017, to raise awareness for women’s heart disease, the No. 1 killer of women. Friday, Feb. 3, 2107, was “Go Red for Women” day. The annual campaign encourages women to get checked and learn the symptoms of both heart attacks and strokes. On Jan. 25, 2017, Rep. Sheryl Delozier met with students from Cumberland Perry Area Vocational Technical School. They visited the Capitol and advocated for the importance of vocational education. The students are working toward careers in construction, nursing, welding, dentistry and automotive. For his Eagle Scout project, Kurtz constructed a new altar for the Holy Apostles Orthodox Church in Mechanicsburg for his project. On Jan. 14, 2017, Rep. Sheryl Delozier honored two brothers who earned the rank of Eagle Scout. Nicholas and Ryan Kambic are members of Troop 82. Nicholas’ Eagle Scout project involved painting a wrought iron fence and removing weeds and controlled ivy on the grounds of the New Cumberland Library. Ryan replaced a cardboard castle used for children’s story time at the New Cumberland Library with a sturdier, safer wood castle. Delozier presented both boys with a House citation congratulating them. Rep. Sheryl Delozier recognized Ava Rusignolo of Highland Elementary School at the Capitol in December 2016. Ava’s picture was chosen for the attorney general’s Drug Free Calendar. It is featured on the November 2017 page. A group of homeschool students from Mechanicsburg visited the Capitol on Dec. 5. The students are pictured in the Rotunda by the Christmas tree. Rep. Sheryl Delozier participated in the “Zonta Says ‘NO’ to Violence” rally on Dec. 6 in the Capitol Rotunda. The event was part of the 16 days of activism against gender violence campaign. She was joined at the rally by Diane Sadler of Mechanicsburg, who lost her daughter, Trisha, in a senseless act of domestic violence in 2011. Rep. Delozier is pictured with Rep. In honor and remembrance of the Emergency Medical Service (EMS) providers who lost their lives in the line of duty, the second annual Pennsylvania EMS Memorial Service was held at the Capitol fountain on Sept. 11. EMS agencies from across the Commonwealth were invited to participate in the ceremony by displaying an emergency vehicle on Commonwealth Avenue. As part of this solemn ceremony, Rep. Corporal Faircloth passed away in early 2011, as a result of a helicopter crash during military training exercises off the coast of Hawaii. His family joined Rep. Delozier on the House floor on Dec. 13, for the reading of the resolution. Reps. Grell and Delozier hosted an education reform town hall meeting at the Good Hope Middle School on Dec. 7. Panelists with various perspectives on the issues surrounding education reform were present to give their arguments, including Pennsylvania Department of Education Secretary Ron Tomalis. Delozier presented Sergeant Scott Pellman of the Mechanicsburg Borough Police Department with a House Citation during a Mechanicsburg Borough crime watch meeting on Sept. 12., Sgt. Pellman is retiring from the department on Oct. 31, after 31 years of service. Rep. Delozier attended a ceremony for the grand opening of the renovated Upper Allen Township Municipal Building on Sept. 17. Rep. Delozier recently attended a ceremony at which Mechanicsburg Mayor Jack Ritter received the Governor’s Award for Outstanding Citizen Crime Prevention from the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency. Mr. Ritter (third from left) has served as the coordinator of the Mechanicsburg Crime Watch since 1998. In addition, he keeps residents informed on various topics, including cyber-bulling and social services for seniors, as well working on ways to curb nuisance crimes in the community. Rep. Sheryl Delozier made comments during the unveiling of a portrait of Eunice Kennedy Shriver, founder of the Special Olympics, during a press conference in the state Capitol. Rep. Sheryl Delozier joined Gov. Tom Wolf and John Wetzel, secretary of the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections, at a Washington, D.C. panel discussion on Pennsylvania’s new clean slate law, as part of “Criminal Justice Reform, The Road Ahead,” sponsored by The Washington Post.
