Christiana Issues Statement on 2017-18 State Budget
HARRISBURG – Rep. Jim Christiana (Beaver/Washington) issued the following statement today following passage of the 2017-18 state budget spending plan:
“Pennsylvanians have demanded we end the dysfunction that has crippled Capitol buildings across the country. They want Harrisburg to work together to control government spending, eliminate wasteful spending and avoid tax hikes, while meeting a simple deadline. While our process of reaching a final product is far from pretty — in fact, it’s borderline ridiculous — it has resulted in an on-time, bipartisan spending plan in a hyper-partisan culture. When both parties share in the responsibility to govern, we can solve any problem confronting us.
“While there are certainly going to be critics who mock and question our backward procedure, which requires us to come back next week to finalize the budget, our desire for an ideal process should not stand in the way of an on-time budget and it should never delay funding for our seniors, our students, our single mothers and our veterans.”
