State Legislators for Legal Immigration Condemns Obama’s Backdoor Amnesty Decree
6/18/2012
HARRISBURG – State Legislators for Legal Immigration (SLLI), founded by Pennsylvania State Representative Daryl Metcalfe, announced its opposition to President Obama’s most recent attempt at incremental amnesty for illegal aliens currently residing in the United States.

Friday’s Executive Order would allow for illegal aliens, between the ages of 16 and 30, to receive a two-year legal work authorization. Limited criteria must be met to qualify and it is anticipated that anywhere from 800,000 to one million illegal aliens will be eligible. The work authorization will also able to be renewed an indefinite number of times.

“This is just yet another attempt at backdoor amnesty that violates the balance of power established by our Founding Fathers and it is a blatant attack on our Constitution,” said Metcalfe. “Obama continually chooses to represent the interests of foreign national illegal aliens over the interests of the American people.”

Congress, the branch of government whose function is the carry out the will of the people they are elected to represent, has continually rejected the DREAM Act. A Rasmussen poll from August 2011 showed that 66% of likely voters say that gaining control of the border is more important than amnesty for illegal aliens. Only 27% believe amnesty is more important.

“The fact that he had to do an end run around Congress to get it done makes it all the more unacceptable,” said SLLI member, Nebraska State Senator Charlie Janssen. “We have a floundering national economy with over eight percent unemployment, so it’s unconscionable to think that the president wants to throw almost one million illegal aliens into the job force.”

The recent amnesty announcement follows the August 2011 Executive Order that halted the deportation of more than 300,000 illegal aliens. The mandate required the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Justice to review all current deportation cases, as well as new cases, to weed out the “low-priority” illegal aliens.

“By imposing another round of executive branch amnesty, the Obama administration has effectively downgraded the federal government from AWOL in fulfilling its Constitutional duty to protect the lives, liberty, property and jobs of American citizens against the illegal alien invasion to a fully complicit accomplice in eroding America’s national and economic security,” said Metcalfe.

Formed to demand full cooperation among federal, state and local governments to eliminate all economic attractions and incentives that continue to lure illegal aliens across America’s unsecured borders, lawmakers from 42 state legislatures have now signed on as members of SLLI.
