Metcalfe to Testify Before Michigan House Commerce Committee to Defend State-Level E-Verify Measure
WHO: PA House State Government Committee Majority Chairman and State Legislators for Legal Immigration founder, Representative Daryl Metcalfe (R-Butler), will testify before the Michigan House Commerce Committee in support of House Bill 4024, which would require certain employers who contract or subcontract with public agencies to verify the employment eligibility of new employees through the federal government’s free E-Verify system.
As of September 8, 2009, federal contractors and subcontractors have been required to use E-Verify. House Bill 4024 would mirror the federal requirement at the state level.
At least 18 states already require the use of E-Verify by public and/or private employers to protect American jobs from being stolen by illegal aliens. In Pennsylvania, Metcalfe has also introduced legislation (House Bill 858) to require all Commonwealth employers and government entities to enroll in E-Verify.
